Lawn Fertilizer Calculator
Applying the right amount of fertilizer is key to a healthy, green lawn. Too little does nothing; too much causes "fertilizer burn" and damages the environment. Our Fertilizer Calculator uses the N-P-K analysis on your bag to tell you exactly how many pounds of product to apply.
Understanding N-P-K
Every bag of fertilizer has three numbers on the front (e.g., 10-10-10 or 24-0-6).
- Nitrogen (N): Promotes green, leafy growth (First number).
- Phosphorus (P): Helps with root development (Second number).
- Potassium (K): Improves overall plant health and disease resistance (Third number).
Standard Application Rates
Most turfgrass experts recommend applying 1.0 lb of Nitrogen per 1,000 square feet of lawn at a time. This is the safe standard our calculator uses by default.
help Frequently Asked Questions
What does 10-10-10 mean?
It means the bag contains 10% Nitrogen, 10% Phosphorus, and 10% Potassium by weight. The remaining 70% is filler material to help spread it evenly.
How do I measure my lawn?
Break your lawn into rough rectangles or triangles, measure the length and width of each, calculate the Area (L x W), and add them together.
